Zappos the online shoe retailer has been causing a stir for a while now. It's winning market share based on it's customer service alone. Delivery and returns are free. Repeat customers get upgraded shipping. Now they've got a new tactic to take their game even higher. They're paying their staff to quit.
That's right. All new hires undergo a four week induction which includes time spent working the phones handling customer calls. After that Zappos offers them $1,000 to leave on top their first months salary. The thinking behind it is that if someone accepts they would never show the dedication Zappo expects from it's employees.
